Event Description

Entrepreneurial Thinking
for the 21st Century

presented by
Gary Hoover

Hundreds of people around the world have paid thousands of dollars to learn from Gary Hoover.  And now the Round Rock Chamber is bringing you a great opportunity to hear from Gary at an exceptional value: only $40 for members and $60 for non-members!

In this information and inspiration filled 3-hour workshop, serial entrepreneur and legendary teacher Gary Hoover shares his conclusions from 50 years of studying businesses of all types, founding 5 startups including Hoovers.com, and teaching and speaking to entrepreneurs and business leaders worldwide.  Bring your notepad and hold onto your hat; the most common remark about Gary’s sessions is, “It’s like drinking from a fire hydrant!”

Whether you lead or manage a high tech company or hair salon, whether your enterprise is small or large, whether it is for-profit or not-for-profit, Gary’s timeless ideas will prove valuable.  In this workshop, Gary will cover the eight keys to building and leading successful enterprises.  He will share the five learning methods that innovators use every day – most of which aren’t taught in school!  And he will answer your questions and discuss these and other ideas.

About Our Speaker:  Gary became interested in business when he grew up in a General Motors town in Indiana, leading him to start subscribing to Fortune Magazine when he was 12 years old.  Since then he earned a degree in economics at the University of Chicago, studying under three Nobel Prize winners, worked on Wall Street picking stocks, and worked 7 years for major retail companies, including reviewing 400 acquisition candidates.  He then founded the first book superstore chain, BOOKSTOP, in Austin in 1982 – this company was sold to Barnes & Noble in 1989 for $41.5 million.  His second company evolved into business information service Hoovers.com, going public in 1999 and selling to Dun & Bradstreet for $117 million in 2003.  In 2009-10, Gary served as the first Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the McCombs School of Business at UT-Austin, and was recently appointed to the same position at the School of Information at UT-Austin.  He also teaches courses in his independent Hoover Academy and maintains a blog and YouTube channel containing information for leaders and entrepreneurs (see www.Hooversworld.com).  He has spoken on every continent but Antarctica.  He lives near Dripping Springs with his 55,000-book library.
